A good note for everyone - if you're using XP, System Restore is VERY helpful in situations like these. I once had some sort of hijack and the only thing I could do was to do a System Restore.

System Restore can take up huge ammounts of HD space (up to 3gb) so I just turned it off. I've never had to use it and I doubt I ever will.

Although you've solved your problem, I had a similar experience, and even though adaware found the problem, it didn't totally fix it, so here are some solutions: 1) check in the registry to see these values(if they exist) are like those below[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentV ersion\Policies\Explorer] - DWORD "NoSetHomePage"=dword:00000000
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions] - DWORD "NoSetHomePage"=dword:00000000 2) Using the program on this page: http://mlin.net/StartupMonitor.shtml you can easily check which programs are starting on windows startup then disable them, and note their location for deletion(I post this program because it is easier than navigating throught the registry) 3) With the taskmanager, end any suspicious task, and don't worry, if its important, windows won't let you close it 4) find and locate all instances of the programs found on startup and delete them(again, if they are truely important windows will protect them)

Heehee! Have you been back to wmmse.com.
Just went there and saw this

This site is closed!
If you dont wanna see this page no more... Please do the following: Go http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/freeware/procexp.shtml then download software, then delete one of following processes in memory: explore.exe(BUT NOT exploreR.exe), internet.exe(BUT NOT internAt.exe), instal.exe, systeem.exe, sendmail.exe, game.exe, winampnew.exe, accesss.exe, gamedownload.exe, exas.exe, temp.exe.
Then download one more program: http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/freeware/autoruns.shtml
run it and delete one of the following from your startup section
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Services\explore.exe C:\Windows\internet.exe C:\Windows\System\instal.exe C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\systeem.exe C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\sendmail.exe C:\Program Files\directx\game.exe C:\Program Files\Winamp\winampnew.exe C:\Program Files\Accessories\accesss.exe C:\Games\gamedownload.exe C:\Documents and Settings\exas.exe C:\temp.exe or any program that looks strange, y.exe, 1.exe etc.
The person responsible for this crap will be punished and fired!
