I bought my school computer back for the break but I had to use the computer at home once today and when I start it up I notice that the Processor is running at 100% all the time .. I was like wtf... so i check the items running when the computer starts up and low and behold there is like a page of programs and junk i've never even heard of.. I was like god damn sister installing every f-ing thing that pops up on her screen.. grrr... so it took me a while but I finally got the computer back to normal.. don't you hate it when you come back to your computer and find it full of shit that isn't suppose to be on there/installed.. grrrr

Mmm oh ya, I leave my computer 5 minutes with my mother figure, and it has 8 spyware programs and count it almost 42 pop up windows on the windows desktop just sitting there blinking at me little bastards. Thats why I use firebird.

I visited my father over Christmas, and mostly it was my job to remove the viruses and spyware my brother had put on his computer. Sad thing is, my brother is 24 and supposedly knows something about computers. He doesn't know a damn thing. You would load the damn thing up, and it wants to dial fucking Bolivia to download some porn. The viruses were pretty tricky, too. I did about as much as I could without formatting the hard drive.

Which reminds me, why aren't people who create viruses and spyware executed? Or at least beaten severely. They probably should be.

I believe in the whole communist ideals when it comes to computers, if they don't need to know about it, sure as hell don't tell them.

I don't talk about computers at all in real life, because I am afraid the more people who become interested and start using the computer that means more pop up ads, and spyware, and viruses :(.

this is why i make my desktop so damn obscure and odd to use (at least one of the reasons). i don't have siblings or anything but if in some odd case my roomie had to use my computer instead of his... he'd be hard pressed to figure it out.

They are banned from it, completely banned. My computer is exactly that, MY computer.

I threw together one for the rest of my family to use from old parts that I no longer needed. It's theirs, and they can molest it in any way they see fit (well, in almost any way, I didn't give anyone else an Administrator account). When I'm not here, mine is locked. Not by a password, but physically locked, as in "key required".

/me agrees with this statement

I use Linux on my desktop, my wife and kids have their own computers, as for my P.O.S. laptop no one touches it but me.

i've heard of that. its a link that somehow gets put in your AIM profile unknowing and it says something like "check this out" over break i went home and it had infected my brothers, sisters, parents and girlfriends computer. it took about about 6 hours for us to remove everything.

i used ad-aware and that removed the majority of the problem. all this shit came up with like "adult web links" etc etc. i believe i manually removed all of links it puts in to your favorites folder. i remember there were about 75 different folders with all different sorts of weird shit in it.

but i would try adaware first to get rid of most of it and if you have anything that replicates itself when you reboot let me know and ill try and remember how i deleted it. there were so many different parts to the thing that i cant even remember it all..

yeah. i used adaware.. but when i click scan again.. the same crap would show up.. its like it either self replicated or somehow didnt get deleted.. i finally said fuck it and used system restore.. things seem back to normal now but there should seriously be some sort of government organization that target these bastards.

Nevit says:

yeah, i use spybot which works really well. another thing is, i dont know if adaware does this or not, but with spybot you can also immunize your computer from a lot of spyware programs so that you can stop them before you get them on your computer in the first place.

also, if you're having trouble with AIM, i recomend trillian, it has better security and is compatible with AIM, as well as many others (MSNMess, ICQ, etc.)

I keep my computer under lock as well. The family computer that everyone else uses is laughable. I came back home from college and found 80 someodd viruses, as well as over 200 adware programs junking it up. No joke. Just for fun I even ran benchmarks on it. I compared the computer before cleaning everything up, and 2 days later again, after purifying it. The second run came in at an average of 2.7x faster!
