Ok I was reading the news about the virus on MSN and I want my mind clear once for all. Ok a little bit of background here...I work with computers since 286 is out. I was on BBS, warez and all stuff where you should get virus but the thing is I NEVER EVER get infected !!! To me it's the same thing then when the American call Orange Code...(eminent terrorist attack). It scares people but never happen! Anyway I'm glad of it and never I will install the NORTON SHIT !!! You uncheck everything to make sure that nothing run on startup and what happen when you look at your process manage, norton, norton, norton ! Good night guys !
Ha, as useless as this post is, I'm 100% the same as you. Been around to BBS's, been downloading warez for quite some time, surf hundreds of sites a day, and yet, in my 12 years with computers, i've never been infected even once. I get a lotta spyware lol but never a virus, ever. I download random stupid shit from websites that I have no idea if their trustworthy or not. Nope, never a virus. I think once every 6 months I run the Housecall Trendmicro online scan, and nothing ever shows up so I guess im clean *shrugs*

Viruses are plenty real. I've only ever had the msblast worm, but other than that, using your head a little bit when surfing protects you more than enough. I've never really seen the need for virus programs.
i got banned for a year at my old computer lab for infecting all the comps........and i never use a firewall, im behind what i call, an eternal proxy, direcway uses proxies within their own network to sublet their public ip's, my main computer has to be set to reroute the modem ip through its self into the proxy program, then my other comp has a local ip....... but oh well, if i get hacked its just an excuse to reformat, which i enjoy the clean bootups and massive free space.

so viperglypgh you've got your entire home wired up like fort nox and you only use your 56k modem to check your email. Man, what kind of lag are you looking at ... 2 or 3 days minimum?
"direcway uses proxies........" - not 56k. and yeah, ive tried to game online, after several minutes of screwing with my ingame network settings, i managed to get my ping down to an average low of 3700 with a max of 14000; but thats due to the beaming up blah blah miles above earth, then beaming down blah blah miles, then hitting the internet, then the return process.

yes, tis very sad. but i have a 56k line that i game on. everything else i do has no effect by latency. its not like i day trade or anything. my 56k has been unrealiable for a while now though. my ping is usualy about 250-350 but ive been getting ping bursts.....250, 260, 245, 350, 700, 900, 1300, 320, 275............
