two years ago when i joined customize, went to school and made people laugh with my broken english it was interesting and fresh. thatīs pretty long ago now. i remember this time when i listen to music from my playlists on the old screenshots.
jazzanova, dángelo, musiq. Immediatly my submissions per week, day increased and i submitted more than 5 versions of one desktop. equal how long thatīs ago. i still feel good when i look back.
There are always new things that amaze you. Is it a new work from the wonderful likuid or the other impressive artists and their great skills. right now i had a talk to a member who joined customize to .. yeah the same time as i did. we talked about why i delted all my stuff here and at deviantart. i tried to explain why i did so.
he said a wonderful sentence. "maybe weīre burnt out from it". yeah. thatīs what he said. and i can just agree.
i think customize sells his name for cheap money since some time. the community is growing and the unworthy submissions are more and more.
you there! you think i say your submission is unworthy? it is not because it is bad work. no becausue you donīt give anything to it. sit down and take it serious and give the respect it deserves.
give yourself a short minute and think about how much time you waste everyday to check your handy, e-mail account, the tv, icq, aim and there is no message for you. and if there is a message: how important is it? our evolution is going fast. maybe to fast. get out of your head and show people who you are. you donīt have to hide behind this monitor and pimp around with your skills. show them to people. and that doesnīt have to be a trendy vector work or a professional looking desktop. maybe itīs the discussion that makes other people interesting for you or the music you play which makes other people smile. your talent for sports, for maths or physics. youīre not a bad looking guy or girl because you have those red points in your face or your glasses. no. you make yourself what you are.
and i destroy myself with this. jumping from one site to the next .. just to miss nothing equal if there is something at all or not. i donīt go out to meet my great friends ... theyīre gone. they left the boy they knew. they all did. because he thought "imrik" is more important than a great party with veronika, julia or the guys. because he thought the new feature in the morning makes him feel better than the smile in the girls face in the morning.
today i had the first two serious discussions on this monitor since i own this sony multiscan. and thatīs a pretty long time now.
when you have your all day damned head ache and you wake up and fear that day that comes and is still before the next time you turn your pc on give yourself these ten minutes to read this "omg!!! long" word from me.

its too bad you feel that way imrik, but doesnt it seem slightly selfish to delete all your works from here? you've some nice stuff that should be shared whether you want to stick around or not.

You're still making people laugh with your broken english. I understand your reasoning, regardless of whether or not I agree with it. If you really want, you could feel that way about anything you do. And in my humble opinion, it's patently wrong to suggest customize has some problems because you've grown jaded with it. Whatever the case may be, you can delete your submissions and do whatever you want. That's your prerogative.
If you're saying you're leaving because the site takes too much of your time, that's fine. How that relates to your submissions, I don't know. If you suddenly feel that you're not appreciated, that's fine. How that relates to your submissions, I don't know. If you feel that your priorities aren't in order and you need to step back from designing, that's fine. Point is, I don't see what you aim to achieve by deleting your submissions. You have a fan base here, and people love your stuff.
mhh. interesting point you got there. Seems like you over did yourself with your pc. The pc is something you sit down too when your home. I think you sat on the computer and made it like your job to create themes and walls which is not good unless you get paid. Friends always come first. You should know that, not people online that you don't know waiting for your next project. Either way it's your desicion on what you do, i wish you the best of luck. Personally I didn't think you should have deleted your stuff. Thats just letting down all your fans. I think you could also solve your problems and be back in no time :) Just take a break ;)
As far as custo goes. I think it's doing well. When Evo comes out hopefully it will make custo's image better.
Well this is strange as I had about the same thougt about my computer too. It's probably one of the last week that I will read or write comments on this forum because I came to the conclusion that selling my computer will have many benifits on me. Don't beleive it's my girlfriend pressure hehehe No I just figure I put too much time on a computer...ok never I will miss a party or anything else but the 3-4 hours a day and most of the time more could be spend somewhere else.
As you know, you can spend 5 hours on a game and feel like it's been 30min...here is a problem and we all think life is short so. After a day on a computer I also feel "empty" like if I had removed a day from the calendar.
Anywya Imrik, welcome in real world...I'm glad to see people waking up, it's never to late.
Sad to see ya go Imrik. I remember when you first created an account here. It was about the same time I made mine. I think custo is cool and all, but I don't let it dominate my life. Consider making a compromise with your time if you enjoy this type of thing, but don't want to devote all your energies to it. I hope you consider coming back, in that I always looked forward to seeing your name in the queue. Atleast drop a line occasionally. :) In any respect keep it real man.
I have to definately say that not just customize, but the whole "internet scene" I guess you could say have just lost it's spark, magic to me also, Imrik, don't feel alone, I feel exactly like you do.
I'm not going anywhere! I love this site. I love how just about everyone knows everyone, unlike other communitys. I love customizing. I love creating stuff for other people to customize. I could never get sick of customizing, the internet, or my puter! My puter is my life! Just about every free second I have it's on my puter, customizing! I thought I should share that with you!
damn! i was talking to an friend a few days ago and he was just like that! he had a great passion with computer, as i belive you do, he spent to much time with it and suddenly he looked back and realised all the good things he missed. So have you.
well, is a problem of prioroties and time, wich is hard to balance. An when you start to see the computer as part of your life and like a tool you use to do a better work, then yes you have a huge problem.
I hope you will show your work on your site, cause I always enjoy to see it.

I agree with Flintsilver. Its your choice to go and your choice to delete your submissions, but it does seem selfsih. After all, this site has done a lot for you. Deleting all your work is like a slap in the face in my opinion. You should leave your work for others to enjoy, just as you once enjoyed this site. But whatever, its your right to do what you want.

Strange thing to do. By all means take a step back from the internet and all the shit that goes with it. But to delete submissions .... sounds more like something else other than a general disatisfaction with internet life. Also this will have an effect on your portfolio ( assuming that Computer design is the way you were thinking of going ). To have a number of featured skins/designs in you portfolio is a bonus. To then delete the submissions... seems a little rash. My 2cents which cos I live down here is worth about 1.74 cents in USA.
We'll miss you, Imrik . . . . I still don't quite understand why you can't keep your work up anyway . . . there's no harm in that. Of course, I can think of a few reasons why you would not want them up anymore, in which case I personally DO understand, even though your attitude would be rather unfair. But I'm sure your reaosns aren't petty.
I'll miss seeing your submissions, your forum comments, everything. Well, I hope you do stick around the forums a bit. By the way, that "teasing" you about your english thingy? I'm sure you realize this: when people consider you FAMILY, they play with you a little more. It comes right along with admiration and endearment. It was all from the heart :-)

But, i know everybody, and their style of work. i have been coming to this site for over a year now and every time i came on i was looking forward to seeing a work of yours, but now those days are gone. i loved your graphic style and the work you did. we will all miss you, keep making graphics though, you owe it to the world

I think I know what sonic has in mind, and if this was any other thread I'd certainly like him to put up, but this thread's about Imrik, so I personally will refrain from flaming anyone here unless they're out of line with Imrik. Sonic, what you do is up to you, but save it for another time. Let's ALL come together, just once, on one thread, and express our COLLECTIVE good wishes for Imrik.

Nobody is sacrificed. You make your own choices and ultimately sacrifice yourself. If for some reason you feel like you are better than everybody, and are now above customize, by all means think that way. As I said before - this apparently applies to colossus now as well - customize is not a failure because you've grown jaded with it.
Painting the entire member base with that brush of arrogance isn't accomplishing anything. Well, maybe biting the hand that feeds. For fuck's sake, Imrik and colossus are not saints. I for one miss the art contributions. If they feel they are somehow better than everybody, then fuck 'em, I don't need that. Please note artistic ability - in which case they have a case for being better than everybody - does not apply to the apparent social arrogance.
You really get out of this site what you want. I for one just like to share my work here and there. If people like it, great. If not, that's fine too.
And colossus, I apologize if I misinterpreted. I don't intend to be inflammatory. I feel myself that there are a lot of stupid people here. One thing that comes to mind is on a recent unnamed VS submission, somebody rated it a 99 and asked where the author's font of choice came from. At this point, it became apparent that the 99 review was mostly meaningless, since the font was packaged with the download and the reviewer hadn't even tested the VS and rated it instead entirely on the screenshot. To me, this isn't indicative of intelligence.
Imrik doesn't just come across to me as an artist with extraordinary talents but he genuinely appears to be a nice guy. Instead of dissing people b/c their work is unworthy, he tells people that it could be so much more if only they gave it that little extra time and effort. When i first read this post i was surprised to find the number of people expressing their collective farewells, respects, and sorrow for the departure of ONE member. I've never seen anyone gaining so much respect upon leaving a community ever. I've never him strait out flame anyone on this site whether it'd be what they said or the quality of their work. He is more talented than most of the people on custo and yet he's not cocky about it, he is humble.
Talent is a wonderful thing, but in order for people to truly love and respect you, talent is not the only key factor, it also has alot to do with who you are as a person. I thought it was adorable how Imrik always brought up those weird philosophical questions that got people on custo to start thinking about the innate foundations of the human nature or something like that. (And if it was anyone else, $20 million bucks says that they're gonna get flamed) Ppl don't just miss him just for his talent, they also miss him as a person. And it's not just custo that needs more ppl like Imrik, society needs more people like Imrik.
I understand c72 if u feel that this site is gaining more unworthy members whose taste in 'real art' differs or appears inferior to u, the more expertise members, or the admins on this site, and maybe ur right. But this community needs new members in order to keep it alive and fresh, and by calling them 'stupid fucks', isn't accomplishing anything other than pissing people off or offending some members.
Everyone's taste in art is different, what appeals to u might not appeal to the next person. I think Picasso portraits are beautiful, but most of my friends hate it because they can't look past the simple cones and cylinders and see it for what it's worth. We can all agree to disagree, but in a mature, grown-up like manner.
Ok this is way out of hand.... thank you imrik for all your works that you've done thus far, you will be missed because you are a great guy who never once complained.
Senex, read the post again. I don't understand what you mean by "I don't know the context of either person." I don't need to know the "context" - by this I assume you mean personal motivations for leaving the site or toning down the activity level. I feel that colossus invited discourse by making a remark about how the member base is "chock full of stupid fucks." That member base includes me. I have every right to comment on that - and I don't need to know the slightest reason why colossus stopped coming here so often.
Let me say that I think Imrik IS a genuinely nice guy. He's got more patience and courtesy than almost anybody I can think of. He's a very talented artist. Colossus has helped me with my work far more than anybody else. He takes time to help people, and I appreciate that.
He made some caustic comments. I will bet every last dollar I have I wasn't the only one offended, and as I said before his unmatched talent as an artist doesn't give him a pass on social criticism. If it does for you, that's all well and good, but not for me.
