ATI All the way. Nvidia is more for budget gamers and you shouldn't spend more than $150 on any Nvidia card. They lost their Gamecube and Xbox contracts to ATI. I got a $65 Nvidia 5200 FX 128 MB and it runs fine. I don't expect hardcore graphics, and I am starting to doubt it will be able to run Doom3 and Halflife 3 when its released.
ati , just pay the extra 100 for the 9800 pro, it's scores are a tiny bit higher than the 5900 ultra u get from nvidia, but iono if u want the best of the best... i use the 5900 ultra and after u overclock it it's almost the same thing as the 9800 just the benchmark scores have like a difference of 20-100
nice.. a vancouver boy.. i got my 5200 from there.. good budget card.. can play most games with the settings almsot all the way up.. but for 100 bucks canadiand.. who can compain, and if u have the money.. buy the asus
Don't waste your money on mid-range cards, anything below a 9700Pro or FX5900 is not wroth it. Both of those cards are now at the price range on the 9600XT and FX5700U, and the gap between the 9700Pro/5900 and 9600XT/5700U is large. Once you hit DX9 games, highers res, and AA/AF... it gets very large. I own a 9800 Pro, FX5900U, and 6900XT. I haven't had any problems with them.
dont listen to any of these fools. hold out for 1 month or 2 and cop a new gen chip card. or, just get this when the new ones come out when these things will be cheaper.
Jeez. Anyone who is a hardware buff, knows that ATI has the video card market by the balls right now. Their DX 9 support is out of this world, their benchmarks (even though, their pretty much all synthetic) are HIGHER than any nvidia card, even with Nvidia-Cheats in the program *Cough* futuremark *cough*. If you want the best of the best, get the 9800 Pro 128 meg card. $227 on Pricewatch.com for a sapphire atlantis radeon 9800 pro 128 meg. Don't be fooled by the XT cards, which are twice the price, and only clocked a bit higher (need i remind you, their clock/mem speeds, are lower, than what you can overclock a standard 9800 pro to, with stock cooling). There's a thread on this forum where I went more into detail about this, if you look around you might find it.

Risky aren't we... you wont be "perfectly fine" forever if you keep overclocking it...
Choy Boy--It's not like you need me to say it for you, but yeah, I agree with just about everyone else, go for ATI, or just wait for a new one to come out. Currently, I'm running a piece of crap video card... but I've had my experience with some of the top-of-the-line hardware. ^.^ I've got too many gaming buddies.
I hate liars. I hate hypocrites. I hate haters. Now gimmie a hug.

I had some problems with my ASUS videocard, I don't trust them any more. My current VC is 5700-256mb by MSI and I'm realy happy with it. If you want to buy hi-end videocard for games and you have windows, go for NVidia: they're friends with M$ and the DirectX support is best, also it's more popular with game developers. I think ATI have same or a LITTLE better performance but are more expensive. Buy it if you want to have BEST speed (3D modeling/animation for example) and don't care about money.
I wouldn't pay over 200 USD for a video card to play the games listed. I have an ATI Radeon 9800 XT, and didn't pay over 200 USD, that is because I am a genius. It is a nice card to have, but nothing more then a novelty.

Its dam cheap right now and gives way more performance than you really need. All cards above that are for benchmark fluff, its unecessary and cash in the toilet
Actually, a video card that performs BETTER than the highest Nvidia card right now, is about $150 or so less. (comparing the 9800 pro to the fx5950) of course, the 5950 has 256 megs of video memory, which is okay if u wanna run 2048x1536 with 6xAA and 16xAF, but whoever does that is just stupid :p And the 9800XT which is around $400, is nothing more than a 9800 pro OCed with a fancy Heatsink/fan on it.
And when i say better, i dont mean a pitiful 3dmark02/03 score, i mean raw hard performance, and lasting appeal. ATI obviously has that going for them.
:I'd walk a million miles for your love, I'd walk a million more for that little thing you do with your tongue :
I like the sapphire 4850 ATI graphics card, it seems to play everything I through at it at topped out settings, things like quake 4, Fallout 3, and a whole bunch more even crysis (I have my prossessor hooked up to a liquid cooling unit that sucks the heat out of the surrounding components as well) usualy goes for about 160 dollars after shipping and handling, but I really works. You can order it (or not) from New Egg, but if anyone does goes out and buy one, don't blame me for trying to get you to buy a shitty card.
