chances are you'd have to find a opensource hacked thing, since i doubt apple would help anyone do it

octopon : you need to download an "codec pack" from one of the many google links available, I have one myself and have never had a problem with opening "appropriate" files in both winamp and windows media player. Go for a search and get back to us. [and I can play MOV files in winamp so a codec must exist]

well, after searching for awhile, i finally came back to the microsoft website (against my better judgment) and I discovered that "Only QuickTime files version 2.0 or earlier can be played in Windows Media Player. Later versions of QuickTime require the proprietary Apple QuickTime Player."
Maybe there is a codec somewhere that allows you to play .mov's in wmp, like b--f said. but i don't trust some hacked codec from an unsecure source. i guess i'm stuck with quicktime. buffering...
