i've got some problems with skinning win xp for example with t-clock wenn you try to apply a new bitmap in the start menue windows just ignores that and keeps its really *wonderful* windows xp pro blablabla thing so i just gut used to having small icons in the start menue and a nother thing is that it seem impossible to change the icons in the start menue with icon packager ... and that sucks cause they really look kind of kiddie style

well yeah seriously.
xp may seem like da bomb and everybodys getting it, but its been like that everytime a new major monopolysoft OS came out, right?
XP is a bitch to get drivers for, is uncompitable with lots of older progs, doesnt support DOS (thus has to emulate it in some way) and in the license agreement microsoft have the right to "upgrade your software without giving notice" or something.šJust imagine what an upgrade like that can involve :P
can somebody get boganman here? ^_^

Sheesh, every time something new is released this happens :p
Go with whatever you want. (i say that while using Win2k ;) )
However, i would have to say that i don't know enough about Xp right now to say that i'd use it. If you want something that you're sure will work ,and will be skinnable you might want to stick to 2k. If you want to screw with stuff, and try and figure out stuff in uncharted (or at least poorly charted) territory, go for XP.
your choice.

jeeez, just say this it is easy to change the menu icons, but not the actual start button microangelo will allow u to change any icon anywhere... the start menu button graphic is not stored the same way as it was in win2k and win9x hense tclock does not work. Right now I am dual booting, Win2k and WinXp I have to say I like Xp, gaming is kicking arse.

I guess all OS has its pros and cons, however there are some ways to get around alot of the stuff in XP. Theres a small little program called Customizer XP, which will tweak and turn your XP into your liking, its pretty cool, and you can turn off automatic update and much much more. Check it out!
