although I do in many instances agree with the "XP is 2k + crap in a package" [especially when looking at your default interface and all your default system settings, dialogs ... ], there are many instances where Microsoft have excelled in leaps and bounds and these you cannot deny. Allowing the user to build onto its integrated style engine was an idea I've been waiting for since way back when. Although hacking files to suit your personal needs is a pain in the ass at least they left some holes open for us to use [on purpose maybe? [ever wondered why when you replace your system files it packs a shit and asks you if you know what you're doing?]]. They could have been real asses and locked it up like fort nox [would love to see it] but no instead we get this hybrid swiss cheese most users here are sitting in front of right now.

I heard that microsoft is creating a new type of terminal for longhorn. aparently even more powerful than the unix terminal... I remember when they brought out windows (the 16-bit versions) and how much resources they took and you had to use a GUI to anything in windows well with terminal now they have the user-friendlyness of the (dumbed down) previous versions of windows but the flexability and efficency of a new terminal.
as i read more about longhorn the more i become interested in it. microsoft has seemed to learnt alot, remeber ME? just an over-bloated version of win98, then they decided to use NT, still bloated but greatly stable and effiecent. longhorn isn't just a ME of winXP, at least i hope not. then again thats what litestep is here for!
yes, longhorn = xp+ crap and xp = 2k + crap, but no one mentioned the totally new file system that longhorn is supposed to have. It is supposed to be even beter than NTFS, and NTFS is much better than FAT32 by a longshot.
i remember visiting a computer site that i saw on a pop-up. www.go-1.com not only is there computer better than a mac. imo, but its using windows xp. back to the topic at hand, it looks like, from their site, they hacked up windows and made it useful and secure. i would have to say its like the mandrake version of windows. check it out.

from what i have been reading, longhorn is comparible to the jump of 95 to 98, some may even say 3.1 to 95, its completely different, u wont be able to tell by just looking at the screen shots, but the core of the OS is suppose ot be a lot better, runnig on XML i think, and A LOT more stable, doubt it'll be as stable as linux, but they are trying
