the ratings are averaged from three sub-categories:

creativity
usability
originality

I personally think usablitly should not be judged for screenshots. Because the admin can't actually test the desktop therefore not being able to give a grade on the screenshot. A person can simply have no icons or no taskbar but for all the admin knows the icons might be flash mouseover and the taskbar set on autohide. Thats why usablitlity shouldn't be rated on screenshots.. On wallpapers yes.

Its up to the user to show his/her desktop and its uses to the fullest. If they dont its their own fault.

All admin ratings are are a way to oraganize submissions (screenshots included) by how visually appealing they are.. nothing more.

well said. ratings really shouldn't mean anything to you. they don't matter to me (as far as my own submissions go)

so whats the point of a rating if it shouldn't matter. If it's a way of organizing, then why don't you drop the rating and go with names in alphabetical order. If it's on "visually appealing" that doesn't include usability and people really shouldn't complain about a desktop being unusable therefore there being no point in that option of the admin review for screenshots, thats what i'm talking about. For wallpapers it's a whole different story.

And hash there is a limit to what you can show on your desktop. Sometimes you can't open everything or show everything, things like mouseover and menus that pop out are hard to show if you need the mouse somewhere else. It's not about caring c72 it's about doing a good job reviewing. You guys are making it sound like there is no point in a good review or a review at all.

they matter to the community as a whole, but you shouldn't base the quality of your submissions upon them.

furthermore, ratings are not even close to the same thing as reviews.

good point shocks with the alphabetetizing. if it "really" doesn't matter to people, I think that would be the way to go.

that's the problem... it DOES matter to some people. i am suggesting that it shouldn't. the ratings are done correctly as far as i'm concerned. as correctly as can be expected given the inherently difficult nature of ranking someone else's work among their peers.

I think a lot of us might be missing the whole point of this community. Its not up to the admins to lay down the final say in what a piece's rating is. The users vote weighs much more.

your right hash, all of you are right i guess what i'm basically saying is that people shouldn't complain about a screenshot being unusable. I just bugs me. Alot of comments where made on imrik's last screenshot about it being unusable. It just made me think, that they don't know how the desktop works. But yah.

except for the part where people rate it as a 1 and put a comment "I don't like it"

mojomonkee says:

people can say they don't like it, but rating things a "1" usually means the comment is buhleeted. if it was really worth 1, it would have been deleted in the first place.

I agree, that's why I said it. That's the one thing I hate if anything.

Shocks: Yeah, people did comment about it being unusable, but (as far as I can remember) they said they liked it and gave it fair ratings.

i think worrying about the rating of your submisions and being disapointed with less than expected numbers is being a little insecure as a artist. you should care what other people have to say about how good it is because everyones style is a little different. as long as you are happy with whatever you'd created, including screenshots, you shouldnt care what admins rate your work. i have to go with mojo when he said ratings are not even close to the same thing as reviews. dont look at the number you're given, look at the reviews from your peers to help strengthen your weakpoints.

"All admin ratings are are a way to oraganize submissions (screenshots included) by how visually appealing they are.. nothing more." - Arznek

- Not completely true. Admin ratings are based on 3 categories, not just looks. It also include originality and usablity.

"I think a lot of us might be missing the whole point of this community. Its not up to the admins to lay down the final say in what a piece's rating is. The users vote weighs much more." - Hash

Maybe true, but thats why you have the options to list submissions by user rank, admin rank, date, downloads etc..

Also I must remind people that admins give RANKINGS. Users give RATINGS. I"ve said this many times. There is a big difference. Admins are putting submissions in a list RANKING them our of the total number of that particular type of submission. Users give RATINGS which is more like a grade you'd get on a paper in school. Users are giving submission X out of 100 points.

ok. this is getting redciulous. im sick of hearing about how admin ratings are supposed to work, blah blah blah, this subject has been played out more than that fucking ludacris song.

what you guys are talking about its not what the original question was. There was no need to go into details about the admin ratins. All that was asked is how do some submissions have decimal points, that was it.

just everybody stop talking about worrying about ratings and such.

when i opened this topic, i expected this to be another 'admin ratings are not fair blah blah blah' topic. I read it, realized it wasn't then scorelled down, and it was trurned into one. why doesn't someone sugest their own way of an adming rating it, and have it be accepted by the majority of the community? until you can, don't complain. if you can, i'm sure the admins will take a look at it and attempt to implement it in evo. what's the point in arguing endlessly about it?
