ISEARCH toolbar...

Avatar-50x50
Ipslne says:

wtf is this ISEARCH toolbar?! I can't find a way to get it off my computer, and since I've had it, it wont let me customize IE6's normal toolbars.

I can't seem to get rid of it, any tips or help?!

The only way I can guess it got on there was when I updated Real Player. That was the last thing I downloaded/installed from the internet. (If that helps any)

Thanks much ^.^

well realplayer is shit, get rid of it and use real-alternative (same with quicktime).

then run ad-aware and spybot search and destroy.

google for all of this.

I'll try all three to get rid of the toolbar, and that real-alternative thing is pretty awesome... however, I'm having troulbe uninstalling realplayer now.

It says it cannot locate the uninstaller even though I havn't touched anything in realplayer other than playing .rm video files *which is all i have it for*

gah, frustration rising.

woah, okay... that's creepy. This ISEARCH crap bloody knows when I'm trying to stop it! It wont let me access any site that will have to do with anti-adware/spyware. I couldn't even download certain progs indirectly. I couldn't find a single site to get HijackThis from that would get past this bugger, but I did find a different prog which got rid of it called SpywareRemover *which came with a different prog of which I forgot it's name...*

I then uninstalled that prog because it was far too unstable. But yeah, thanks for your helpness :)

it may have messed with your HOSTS file since you can't access certain sites. Open C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\HOSTS and see if there is anying else other than 127.0.0.1 localhost or something you may have added. If it has sites referring say safer-networking.org pointed at 127.0.0.1, then delete them, just leave the line with localhost.

Shit, I solve one prob and then I realize I still have another. I can't do anything with my IE6 toolbar still. The buttons work and all, but if I want to customize it, I can right click it and all I'll get is "Text Labels" as an option and everything else is grayed out.

This started because of that spyware crap, now I don't know how to get everything back to how I had it. More help?

Flintsilver says:

Try System Restore if you're running XP. Assuming you have adequate disk space allocated for System Restore, it's almost as good as repairing an installation.

The thought had crossed my mind, but I don't think I have an adequate system restore point if I can hardly maintain 100 MB free...

Flintsilver says:

Depends entirely on what you've done. For example, a restore point involving the installation of UT2004 takes up almost 4 gigabytes. The average might be around 10 megabytes or so, but that's a total guess.

mojomonkee says:

hehe no, the average system restore is a few gigabytes on my system... and that's just regular usage.

Ipslne says:

Well, the last time I checked, my system restore was about one and a half gigs, and when I only had that much left on my hard drive, I disabled the system restore... I don't know if it would enable itself or what... it had asked me if I wanted to clear the system restore data, so it may still have worked if i had the disk space. I just don't have very much right now so I really doubt it.

I must've been way off. I think if you don't change files that often (I almost never install stuff) then your restore points should be really small. If you install stuff frequently, your restore points will be large. How small exactly I don't know.

I thin ere.mite's on to something!

No excuse for using i.e., it's basically a dead in the water project since MS realized they wouldn't be able to take over the world with it.

Why not use a browser that's actively being developed instead of lazily patched?

hehe, i've been wanting to switch from IE for quite a while now... but my top priority on this computer is getting rid of things, not adding stuff on. For now, if I install something, it's temporary cuz I don't have space on this computer anymore. Mostly video files I need to get rid of, but I've been pretty damn lazy...

pimp: thanks much for that link... even though i got rid of the toolbar, i still had trouble being able to access IE's toolbar options. The link fixed it though. So thanks again ^.^

You must use either ad aware or spybot to uninstall that thing...
Besides they help a lot in other similar situations..

system restore is as likely to help as does a suicidal dream to someone already dead. format, kill, burn whatever is on your hard drive [ make sure you know what you're moving around ] to some form of removable media, even if thats anothe hard disk then format the sucker. windows goes ape shit everytime you install something new. always make sure other users have tested any software on your version and if you're using an unstable operating system such as windows [ xp, me especially ] make a backup copy of the windows directory and its associated system files [ better safe than sorry ] to a zip or other compression archives. that HOST file is there to annoy users I swear.

I'm pretty sure I said this already, but maybe not as clearly:

Using ad aware doesn't completely get rid of it. It gets rid of the toolbar, but it still limits use of the standard IE toolbar. To get rid of it fully, I used 56kpimp's link (http://toolbar.isearch.com/uninstall/)

So yeah, it's all gone now, and thanks again for everyone's help!

Tracker says:

I have the same results. Still working on it. Ad-Aware claims to fix it but it leaves all the trash behind and DOES NOT fix the disabled toolbar. Interestingly, if I log on as another user the problem is not there. I did try importing the Regkeys from the working user (Hkey_CurrentUser\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar) but this disability is located elsewhere.

Specifically the following menus are checked, but not able to be changed:(located on view, toolbars)

Standard Buttons
Address Bar
Links
Norton Antivirus
isearch Toolbar

Very reluctant to run a program (toolbar.isearch.com/uninstall.exe) provided by the same criminals that perpetrated this crime.

Tracker says:

New Discovery:
The disabled menu is also in windows explorer - not just internet explorer.

And I wish some of you would read these posts.
The uninstaller is 1.)spyware and 2.) Does not fix the disabled toolbars.

Ipslne says:

Well, the uninstaller fixed my disabled toolbars, and I was well aware that it was associated with spyware, so as soon as I ran the "uninstaller", I then ran every adware/spyware/virus scanner I downloaded for this specific problem in the first place and eventually got rid of everything I could find that it left behind. So if you're willing to take the time to deep-scan your HD, go ahead and use the "uninstaller"... it fixes the problem and the problems it creates can be fixed, as far as I know...

I had exactly the same problem as Tracker, I managed to rid myself of the ISearch toolbar (using Ad-Aware) but found that it had altered my toolbar settings so that most customize options were greyed out. Here is the solution that worked for me:-

Open Regedit

Go to Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\
Policies\Explorer

Modify the Dword Value NoBandCustomize to set it at 0

Modify the Dword Value NoToolbarCustomize to set it at 0

Restart IE and hopefully everything should be back to normal.

To confirm, is the Uninstaller good or bad? And does it fix the toolbar settings in both Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer?

I'm not familiar with the use of Regedit and Regsvr32 - how do I run them?

LondonNugget says:

I if were you I wouldn't bother with the uninstaller, it didn't work on my machine and a lot of folks are reporting the same thing? Get yourself Ad-Aware's free edition with the latest reference file. This will get rid of the all the stuff associated with the Isearch toolbar. You run regedit by typing "regedit" into your run dialog box from the start menu. It will allow you to edit your registry. Tread carefully though. The registry is arranged in a tree structure (much like explorer etc). If you go through the structure carefully you will find the Dword values I have indicated. Simply right click on the name and select "modify." If the value is shown as 1 then change it to 0. When both Dwords are set at 0, shut down regedit and restart IE. If you are unsure of my instructions CHANGE NOTHING!
