help with trojan

I was surfing the net a while back and while on a website, nortan opens up a dialog box and says that your computer has been infected by a trojan and that it unsucessfully tried to remove it....i close the dialog box, fire up NAV and do a complete scan...it doesnt show me an infections...then i went to www.trojanscan.com and did a complete scan and again it showed that my system was not affected...i have no idea whats going on...why would norton say that the comp's infected and then show up nothing when scanned...do you guys have any idea what's going on????can u link me to some software that will show me if i have a trojan or not on my pc?

now don't take this wrong ... but are you sure the message was actually "from" Symnantec and couldn't have been mistaken for a well designed flash ad or the such ... [ it's happened before ... dam thats why advertising survives because of actions like that ] if it was an authentic message from norton antivirus did you note the name of the "virus" and was the "virus" automatically quaranteened? if so then you'll never be about to scan and detect as the threat has been neutralised and you have no need to worry.

that's exactly what i thought as well...because the pop ups didnt exactly look like NAV...but since i was so scared and cos it was a brand spankin new laptop i didnt notice it i guess..thanks for the help
