as usual doing it on the cheap, looking for an "adequate" firewall out there (lots of updates, a couple of features, free), what are you all running (i mean if you know what one is). ha, will piss myself when we need to secure our mobile phones (oh fuck, forgot, already out there).

zonealaem appears to be the best free one. i would reckon. It does everything that a firewall should do but just without some features that arent needed but are just nice. which you have to pay for.

ZA has been a ... "interesting" experience, i'm running more than one account on XP Home and it only wants to configure itself for one account. "interesting" enough, it configures itself every time you log into one of those 3 other accounts.

I would say: get yourself a cheap ass router (i.e. netgear, linksys) that NATs.

Should be able to find somehting for 20 bucks these days, i know, not free, but software firewalls tend to be a pain, imho

Try Jetico Personal Firewall v1.0 beta.
It came out this year, has all of the bells and whistles, tracks system changes, takes notes about allowing programs (like ZA does). And it works well with a cable modem!
