for litestep you kinda just have to jump in... for me i've tried jumping in multiple times.... i wouldnt know of any sites that could help... but there seems to bee some pretty LS savvy guys in the #customize channel.
sticboy [stic] Customize.org Staff Design Development --------------------------- "still keeping it clean, simple, and functional."
i guess im in trouble then huh?? i never took any computer design classes....or have any experience with any of this stuff...dunno where to put the mods...images...there should be like a tutoral thing on this site.... =(
I've tried litestep several times and failed. Today I desided to give it another try. This is my result http://img85.exs.cx/img85/4627/LSdesk.png . It's not much but I think I get it now. It just clicked. The easiest was to learn I think is to work off of someone elses theme. It's so much more usable then just windowes explorer. Prettier too. Once I get more comfortable with making themes you can expect an LS theme with my visual styles.
Pfft you acted like it was all default looking Heylove. That's niiice lookin'!
And Ricemonkey918 like Heylove said work off someone else's theme. It'll be much easier then starting from scratch. I worked off of Co1e's Classic theme... wish I had chosen a OTS2 theme though lol. But I've almost gotten it to where I want it.
I mean when I took my first LS shot I had only been using it for a day. So for me it clicked SORT of easily, I did ALMOST give up. But I told myself I wanted to get it in one try, not try many times. But are you coming from Explorer going to Litestep?
Because I THINK that would be slightly more difficult. I just came from BBLean, so it was to much of a shock. Had I tried Litestep first after using Explorer I think I would have definitely given up. And would had to have tried again at a later time. =/
You know just how many times have I made mistakes on here. That's it I'm double checking every thing I post. You can't even read my last line in there.
It should be:
And would have had to try again at a later time. =/
I agree with Heylove and Pyro_... just take a look at other LS themes ... choose one, and start. Take a good one, the best design is not always the best coded. Mojomonkee makes some good stuff, and I can't talk about LS without talking about the Non|Step theme updated by Ankle, mukkuh and Nobby Nobbs, I use it more than 9 hours/day (at work) , and I didn't notice any matter. (http://nonstep.litestep.com/), it can be a good start.
rice, don't worry about how it turns out graphic wise. make up some concepts (its quality not quantity just the same when it comes to theming so keep it simple stupid and you'll be fine.). if you pull up a nice concept then i'm sure someone will assist you with graphics (i mean there's enough people around).
when it comes to learning the code, easiest way i've found is to steal other peoples themes, clean it up into each module's relative code and then start tinkering with settings before you begin developing your own. with practice comes perfection.
ooo, did someone say we need a tutorial section? =D

If you really think about it, Litestep has an easy learning curve. It's the fact that everyone new to it, myself included, won't take the time to read a module's documentation to learn it's functions, thus they get frustrated and bitch about it being hard, when all they have to do is look at a .txt file.
I can respect anyone with the time and patience to learn LiteStep theming. I have the time, but not the patience. I've tried it in the past-- it just wasn't my cup of tea.
