Please help, i dropped my IPOD and cracked the screen, the IPOD stil works but itsw very difficult to see the menus, Apple want to charge me €220 to fix it,the IPOD cost me €289!! Anyone any ideas

Have you tryed calling around for someone else to fix it? Doesn't apple's repair service have a reputation for having high prices? Like the whole battery replacement thing?
Other than that, maybe try selling it? Not saying you'll get much, but someone may buy it because they don't have much money and you say it'll still play songs, and that could go toward a new ipod?
In my experiance, I've found that lcd screens aren't that difficult to replace. If you're confident enough to dismantle the device, I would do so, and determine wether or not it uses an ide resemblant ribbon connector. If it does, it should have a plastic clip which can be unlocked, allowing the ribbon cable to be removed. After this step, attempt to locate an after market screen, or non-working ipod. Installation is the reverse of removal. I would again state that you only do this if you are confident taking the Ipod apart. If you can locate a non-working one for cheap, I'd try on that first. If you still can't figure it out, e-mail me and I'll do some more research into your problem.
IPOD is seriously bs about their prices. I head the internal battery of the IPOD lasts only half a year and itz costs around 200 dollars to replace it.
just buy a belkin extra battery, and your lcd problem can probably be fixed if you go to your local Apple Store (we have them here in states, not sure about Europe) and whine enough at one of the people. That what I do every few months.
Its easy just claim on your house insurance they are normaly quite good. If they, can't fix it they will give you a new wone and it will only cost you your excess normaly £50 "Bargain"

If your iPod screen is cracked, whether you dropped it or not, Apple will automatically assume that it was your own fault. You can argue until you're blue in the face and even threaten to take them to court, but if you want your iPod screen fixed, you will have to pay them to do it. See http://www.appleipod.org
i have had my ipod for almost three years. still works great. i had sand under the wheel for a bit but that worked its way out. I think a lot of it is people not taking care of their things.
flat out, if your LCD is cracked it is considered accidental damage and is not covered by your warranty. Furthermore if you are in the US and your LCD is cracked, the unit is sent back un-repaired. The cost of Apple replacing it would be more than your iPod.
