i downloaded replacer and replaced the shell32.dll, but how come my icons still did not change? The only shell.dll i can't delete is the one that has been modified but it still does not change even after i restarted the comp
ok, just a question in between: what other functions does the shell32.dll have? Is it possible to use one from another computer, to take over a series of settings or so?

Well did u terminate explorer because windows uses a little thing called DLLcache in which it stores all DLL files currently in use incase or crashes. If you replaced it then restated , Windows would have read it as a possible attack and replaced the file with the backup DLL.
Damn im good.

You don't need to terminate Explorer if you use Replacer, as it replaces the file in the dllcache folder. Furthermore, the dllcache folder is used by Windows File Protection to store copies of DLL files used by the system, to prevent attempts at modifying system files, not for system crashes.
Damn, learn what you're trying to teach.
HKALiEn: What steps are you following to replace shell32.dll? Here's a general rundown of what you should be doing:
1. Copy shell32.dll to another folder (your Desktop folder, for example). 2. Open the copy with ResHacker, edit and save it. 3. Use Replacer to replace the original shell32.dll with the edited copy you have. 4. Wait for messages from Windows File Protection to pop up, and click "Cancel" when given the opportunity. 5. Restart.
If all goes well, you should have successfully replaced shell32.dll. Your icons may not update to show the changes, though. If that happens, download TweakUI and use it to rebuild the icon cache.
If for some reason the steps outlined above don't work, try using Replacer after booting Windows in Safe Mode.
