a) it is the funniest thing i've seen on TV in ages. 2) I am a member of SomethingAwful.com and have access to this video capture that is so hilarious (though I'm sure the other members would like it to stay an "inside joke"...) x) Something Awful totally owned G4 on their own network
G4's Attack of the Show invited one of Something Awful's writers to be on the show to talk about the site. For those not in the know... Attack of the Show's premise is "What's funny on the Internet... at least 3 months ago!"
That said, Something Awful should have been featured on this show for the very first episode since mostly anything you've seen on the Internet that's funny came from that site.
When the owner of SA found out that one of the writers was going to be on the show, this was his advice:
"I think you should concentrate on making SA seem like the worst site in the world. Come off as a real jerk. Refer to SA by the wrong name, like "Something Is Awful dot com" or "Some Things Awful." Make up facts about the site. Claim I'm in jail. Say we're being investigated by the FBI.
Seriously, make sure everything you say is 100% wrong. Don't answer any questions legitamately. I want people who never heard of SA before the interview to think it's a horrible site and never want to visit.
Say I couldn't do the interview because I'm under house arrest
If I look at the SA stats and notice traffic has spiked after your interview, I'm going to know you did a terrible job"
In closing, I give you Dr. Thorpe on Attack of the Show:
somehow i doubt that would help in the task of cognizing "the funny".
you see, G4's Attack of the Show expected a rousing bout of comedic fisticuffs from the gentleman hailing from the website SomethingAwful.com. little did they see the onslaught of uncooperativeness and lies to be put forth by the wily Dr. Thorpe.
it's funny because it's the exact opposite of what you'd expect! hilarity abounds!
ah, i love it. i can't stand that damn network. TechTV was surprisingly decent, and they went and shat all over it.
Phunkyspr33 - it's understandable that it may not be funny if you don't have the channel and/or a strong dislike for the goober that was conducting the interview.
