I didnt know him personally. A person like my dad or grandmother would have more impact on my life. Good people die everyday... what makes this one so much different? Publicity? Hype? I dont know, but i can say that my grandfather did more for me than the Pope... but i didnt sob constantly for days. Its like when elvis died, girls went crazy and were depressed for weeks... what did elvis do? Its the same thing. Its all hype, its all about idolising an person that you've never met. I dont consider his death anymore impactful than lets say if Shaq died or the lead singer from ummmm lets say Nickelback died.

Its sad yes! But people have put their lives on hold and taken time off work and what not... like come on concentrate on more important things.
A funeral is one thing... but you have to know when to draw the line.
You dont go to a funeral for someone you didnt know, (maybe someone you just saw every once and awhile but never spoke with...) you dont go to their funeral and cry uncontrolably or put your life on hold.
Just seems like a fad sometimes.
But I do respect the Pope, and I respect what he has tried to do for us. But I didnt know the man... just like i didn't know Kurt Cobain or Frank Sinatra.
ONCE AGAIN GOOD PEOPLE DIE EVERYDAY, PEOPLE THAT PROVIDE FOR THEIR FAMILY, PEOPLE THAT LOVE THEIR WIFE, THAT LOVE THEIR MOTHER, PEOPLE THAT CARE.
This isnt any different, nothing more nothing less. So instead of crying for the Pope... cry for all good people who've died.
This will probably make me less popular here... but its the truth.

the pope (and specifically john paul II) passing is a lot more different to me than kurt cobain or even ronald reagan dying. unlike most popular figures, the pope's main objective has always been to care and guide all people. no matter his and his church's policies on women and homosexuals, i think jp2 reached out to more groups of people than most political/religious figures. and i miss that...the prescence of someone who cared for people so much. i haven't put my life on hold to watch his funeral or breathlessly await the appointment of his successor, but sometimes during my day i'll be reminded of how nice a guy he was and the things that he did to make the world better. sappy, but that's how i am.

I got last friday off of school because of the funeral.

You've gotta love Catholic schools.

The Pope himself, not a bad guy... I mean c'mon, he blessed breakdancers. As for the rest of the Catholic church, can't say I'm real fond of them.

I'm atheist. I respect religious people and their views as long as they don't try to convert me. As for the pope, too bad he died. He didn't do anything for me, but that doesn't make me glad he died.

btw i'm atheist, and hold a similar view to narco except i don't accept catholics to be christians. i know its disrespectful to look at the negative points of a deceased person reign, but damn, little johnny may have opened up some details of his camp but he didn't help out in undeveloped nations (esp. regarding std's) with his funda. views.

it doesn't really affect me that much...but he was a good man who did a lot in his life that was to be admired. i think that whoever becomes the next pope will have more of an effect on the world in its current state.
