come on, got to take it back to hip-hop roots where it was just a party music that no one really wanted to record. when surgar hill and grandmaster really hit then it became recorded music. Before than hip-hop was almost viewed as a religion and a way to help push inner cities communities away from negative things like gangs and into positive things like dance and graffiti (art).

I've been listening to a lot of old-school hip-hop lately and really enjoyed it. It's the new stuff for which I have no taste. but, I do like Jay-Z's Black Album and the subsequent Grey Album. I believe I like the old stuff more simply because back then they weren't doing it to get rich or famous. The early MCs and DJs were just having a good time. But yeah, if you're looking for corniest, Vanilla Ice wins. perhaps Eminem has the best lyrics, but I do not particularly like him.

I used to be really into rap/hip hop... but now I have gotten to the point where I like very little of the new stuff. I dont like all the money, bling, car, hoes type of rap. I dont think its neccesarily the style that drives people away from rap, but more so the topic that is most often discussed.

Yea, I know it's old, but it works.

I use to DJ, and mainly hip-hop but kinda crossed to house becuase i found that 90% of new hip hop... lacks substance or real thought ie: "Wait Till You See My Dick Bitch", if thats a thoughtful chorus than i'm the Queen of England.
Well if you can rap about killing your pregnant wife and or mom and or anyone... than your not corney... just plain wrong, so very wrong...

And by saying you "like the beat", that indicates you need a head check, if you just liked the beat then you'd get the instrumental version.

So i'd say probably my most voted for wouild have to be Vanilla Ice... but with that said, i probably respect him the most.

personally, i think that most rap today sucks. mostly due to the content. it is no longer what it used to be, and that makes me sad. back in the day it was ALL about life, now it's almost all about extremes.

as for the poll, durst needs to be taken out back and shot the most. eminem can follow with his little slim shady alter-ego in tow. vanilla ice...he's just sad. he has some new show where he's trying to make a comeback...

Oh did I mention I was a DJ Max? Oh i did... and usually a dj's job is to hear all genres and sides of music... and since I was a hip hop dj I heard more than most. And yes I can say with confidence that 90% of newer hip hop is fluff. i'm speaking from experience. (And I'm not getting my numbers from the radio... with your comment you dont seem to know what a DJ is... and in that case you categorized DJs as individuals that only play mainstream and listen to the radio.)

Now the other 10% i gotta say i appreciate and sometimes love... but sorry that 10% doesnt include Eminem, 50 Cent... or the formentioned Ying Yang Twins.

Nothing against you Max... but dont assume and more importantly dont scrutinize a person who has had experience in that particular field.

But in all honesty if "wait till you see my dick bitch" is what you want out of a song... then its easy to find. enjoy :)

Im going to have to agree with Fenris and FF on this one. The current rap scene is just embarassing. Theres no substance to it. It can be summed up in about 3 sentences.

I was poor. Now Im rich, drink 8 bottles of Cristal everyday, have 25's on my Hummer and 9 girls on my dick. Any idiot with a rhyming dictionary can come up with this shit. I want to hear something original like the first time I popped in Enter the 36 Chambers.

As for the poll. Fred Durst all the way. You know you suck when your bandmate leaves because he hates the music you're putting out. I can knock Vanilla Ice though. If some suits came up to you and told you they could make you rich beyond your wildest dreams most people would jump at that chance. I cant figure out why people bitch about Eminem so much. He's hilarious and its not meant to be taken seriously.

Being a DJ does'nt mean you know music inside and out.. I know a DJ too and you know what? all he plays is old country music, but he's a DJ right...

Hey my post was meant to be shocking.. it shows you the silly stereotypes on both sides of the fence. It basically makes fun of the people who believe them and are too dumb to figure out that its not "ALL".

And really, I could list out the names of people and groups in hiphop and rock that dont fit the stereotypes above but im not trying to convince anyone to not be as ignorant.. just listen to what you like and be done with it.

I think the point Max was trying to make up there is pretty obvious: Stereotypes are limiting, stupid and harmful. Anyone who agrees with them is pretty shallow, and people who live and operate within a strict stereotype (gangstas, rocker, redneck, what have you?) have no real personality.

But......It's pretty ironic that the people apparently most upset by stereotypes here don't have a problem with the poll itself. How about just "Corniest rapper?"? Why do we need the "white"? The poll itself is racist in that it's saying that somehow these people are corny not only because they are poor rappers, but that somehow they are even worse because they are white. Pot, meet kettle.

Next poll: Worst black rock artist?

I bet that'd go over really well.

And anyways, African American people pretty much invented rock and roll.

I understand the poll was maybe to make a point, esp. since certain people jumped in with their views so quickly. But there's much better ways to bring about a discussion without becoming the thing you are rallying against.

If y'all REALLY think that that shit that's in the charts, which everyone seems to think is 'rap', then please..feel free to continue to make me laugh everytime I read that.

If you also think that it's 'all about hoes and bitches' believe that also. I can name hundreds of artists that aren't about that. I suggest that the people who think the above, listen to some KRS-one. You may not like his music, but his music isn't about 'hoes and bitches'.
