it'll be close betwixt the 360 and the PS3 with the revolution (and nintendo as a whole) spiraling into the realm of irrelevance and obscurity.

if sony keeps chopping features off of the PS3, though, they will have trouble keeping up with microsoft's vision of taking over everyone's living room.

i think there's a growing disdain among the snobby/old-timer gamer crowd for the whole "we'll take over your living room with our gleaming next-gen idiot-box" trend. personally i've never felt the need for my idiot-box to do anything other than play games. if ms and sony want to throw bucketloads of money into r&d of features that will probably never gain widespread usage, then fine. also, if N wants to shut itself away and pretend that the video game industry isn't advancing, then fine. different strokes for different folks.

i guess what i'm trying to say is that lofty ideas and grand visions are fine, but don't punish the consumer by forcing them to shell out shitloads of cash for features that maybe 20% of the userbase will actually use or even care about.

oh, and in closing, i'll end up getting all the systems like i do in every generation. but not right away. i don't like being a hardware beta-tester for trashy laser components.

PS3, because A: They will have the advantage of releasing the system after the Xbox360, thus allowing the to see what it can do and improving upon that, and B: Nintendo stands NO chance against Sony or Microsoft whatsoever, because they have no clue what they are doing anymore, and rely too much on the classic franchises to help keep the company alive. Nintendo is the weakest link in the next gen chain, and I know I can trust Sony, because they've never let me own as as consumer, whether it be things like DVD players or speakers to the PSP. They continue to astound me with thier innovation. To put it simply, Sony knows what the public wants, and they deliver. Micro$oft on the other hand seems to only be interested in making money (like they always have been all these years) and if you don't agree just look at things like Xbox Live, which requires you to pay a subscription, just to play games online. I think its ridiculous, especially when you are already paying for the system, game, and internet service. As for Nintendo, well, they seems to be marketing towards kids, which I am not, so I have no interest in the company at all.

Oh, and I also forgot to add, while im highly anticipationg the PS3, my love of PC gaming will always come first. Nothing beats a PC. :P

you honestly think sony isn't out to just make a buck? or a yen? and as far as their astounding innovation goes... releasing a hdd and not supporting it? that certainly takes some balls. turning their once perfect controller into a fucking boomerang? that's some top tier decision making.

sony is not a god, they are a company, they are out to make money, they have good ideas and they have bad ideas.

in my two years of managing an EB games shop, i lost every ounce of my brand loyalty. once you realize that each machine has its strengths and weaknesses, and that limiting yourself to one brand just kills your potential to have fun with games (by two thirds in this case), you can set yourself free.

Sony's PS2 profit margin is net 6%.

Microsoft's is negative.

Nintendo's profit margin is net 21%.

21% is possibly the highest in the entire software industry.

Microsoft either releases the next Dreamcast, or steals a 45% market share while nobody's looking. There's no middle ground in my mind. Sony will either hold it's market share or fall to 30%, and Nintendo pretty much stays put.

The battle will be decided within a week of 360's launch. It's just too early to guess.

Who cares about the console, it's all about the games. Gamecube had potential but all the games sucked (except Zelda, it's such a classic). Xbox only had 2 games going for it, Halo2 and Fable. PS2 was more popular, because it had scores of badass games.

Screw the hardware, whatever comes out with the best games is the console I'll buy.

as someone who always supported nintendo, i'd have to say i won't be buying them. Yeah, the classic downloads had me going, but after figuring out i could just get a SNES for 30 dollars and the games for about 5 im better off going that route.

N has just gone downhill, not matter how much they talked innovation in the past they always seem to know that horsepower was still very important, but now they have realized that the drones that buy their hardware don't really care how much they are getting screwed. N went on and on about how great their controller is and yet it seems 3rd party companies have seen from recent comments. And recent comments aren't too promising from EA - a company that seems to have backed them in the past.

Im putting my money on MS to really take some precious markey share from Sony, they may not win, but I bet they do some damage.

Compo, just buy a PSP so you can carry SNES/NES/Genesis emulators with you.

I don't think Nintendo will ever die, I just don't think they'll ever be the dictators they once were. Which means time to produce some new games. Not Zelda 13 & Mario 19 (even though both series are freaking great).

I want to see some innovation.

I hate all these ps2 /ps3 people yeah, am not staying all the games etc are shit, but the majority are, people say oh playstation have more games, yeah for 2 year olds, its aimed at the younger gamers then nintendo younger still, if you want a good console with the best online gaming get xbox, if you have played halo 2 online you'll understand, i have played some of the top ps2 titles online like socom etc and they are terrible, very laggy not responsive and generally shit gaming. trust me guys, 360 is the way forward :)

You know, I realized today that I spent more time clutching a Dreamcast controller for this generation than I spent with my PS2 and Xbox combined, and will probably continue to spend more time on the Dreamcast than any other console for the next generation as well.

That's devotion.

(The fact that the Dreamcast's library is insanely deep for a short-lived console doesn't hurt either)

check the games, every console today have their "awesome games" on each console, and it will be the same for the next generation console, whatever if your console can play same time and make cookies if the game library sucks... every console have their own advantage.

Plus I think the PSP gave Sony a little boost. It went above and beyond my expectations. That said, I started to lean towards the PS3.

Right now Sony is saying the PS3 is twice as powerful as the 360. ^_^ And I recently got to watch that whole unveiling of the 360 on MTv, and I mjust say I wasn't too impressed. You could see the lagging and tearing of a low refresh rate when they demoed Perfect Dark Zero being played, I know its still beta, but if its any indication of the systems overall performance, then Microsoft better get thier system fixed.

Plus, graphics don't mean crap if the games suck. If i want graphics I'll play my PC games. =)

PS3 will always have more games. There's a difference. If you throw enough shit at the wall, some of it's bound to stick.

The PS3 will not be twice as powerful as the Xbox 360, that claim violates Moore's Law, which has - in the HISTORY of modern computing - never been broken. The PS3 is dropping a year later than the Xbox 360, so of course it will be slightly faster - nowhere near 100% faster, more like 20%, and the Xbox 360 will probably have the better graphics processor, resulting in a draw.

And nobody seems to be talking about the fact that Cell is the most difficult processor to code for since the Saturn's CPU array.

Plus, hey, news flash, Sony Lies. Sony claimed in 1999 that the PS2 would be able to render the movie Toy Story in real time. They claimed that a demo of the most advanced FMV in Final Fantasy 8 was running on the hardware - it was later proven to be prerendered.

So yeah, other than the Gran Turismo series, what games is PS3 going to have that the 360 won't?

360: it's going to be hella expensive, games are gonna be like 60-70, everything will go up in price, graphics card > ps3. if they buy out the software companies they can win ex: EA

PS3: estimated cost is currently at $470, look it up, the processor > 360, thus a draw graphics wise. BUT the coding is hard so LESS games. PS2 has a shit load of games, 90% blow. this game has nothing over 360 besides Gran Turismo or Splinter Cell.

Nintendo: price, if they come in low enough they can win. the image of the machine reflects the new image of their games, not a kiddie cube. the console itself looks sleeker and more badass than the others. If N plays it's cards right they can be up there for sure.

Nintendo is going to release it's console at about $200, so that's ~$450 for PS3, ~$299 for 360, and ~$199 for the N

I have to go with Xbox 360. Looking at the Ps3, with its 9 chips, thats going to be alot harder to code a game with them then it seems. Also with the recent yet not new statment that Microsoft has paid a good amont to there old graphics card company, (used in the orginal Xbox) There will now be backwords capability, not full, but I know I will be playing Halo and Ninja Gaiden, and many other great titles that were made for the orignal.

There is no way I'm paying $450 for a console, unless it comes with 4 controllers, 3 games, and an iPod mini or something.

PC wins all of them. But since it isn't there, I will say the Nintendo Revolution.

By the way, the only good Xbox game I saw was Gears of War. That game had insane graphics. But none of this Perfect Dark Zero crap. That game looks stupid and boring. I see the Counter-Strike models hold the guns better during gameplay.

Specs for PS3 blow away the competition hands down, compared to MS' made up jargon about how bad ass their system is.

both the xbox 360 and the ps3 boast to have a lot of power and funtionalities. although... that funky-shaped ps3 controller ruins it. i don't care too much, i'm a pc gamer. but who knows, i'll convince a friend too buy one so i can test it out and see if it's worth thwe price tag.
