Welp, here we are folks, something I worked on for several hours straight. Been a while since I've posted anything, but this was a must have for me :)
Inspired completely by sticboy after seeing his latest desktop, using his new VS "Untitled". I've always enjoyed stic's style, no matter what he does, and I just had to try this one out.
It's hard trying to match wits with a VS when you're on 98, cause some things just aren't gonna look as good, this is obvious and well known, but, with a little work, you can get pretty close, and with this being a black and white theme, it's a bit easier to do :)
Anyway, mods in place as usual, as they always were, though not as many. I've modded literally, only the things I see/use daily.
A while back, someone asked me if you could simply have your start menu display directories only, and no "Programs" menu. Well, at the time, I didn't think you could, and I tried, but 98 bucked it all the way, but little did I know, I was simply doing things wrong. So, now, I have complete control over my start menu. You can see that there is no "Programs" menu, which of course was always easily renamable through Reshack, but I'm talking about it being GONE All of my shortcut folders are in the ROOT of the start menu, so I'm just one click away, not one click, then a menu So to me, it's a new hack. In XP, one can have "My Computer" in the start menu and such, but not in 98... however, with this easy mod, you can. I can set the menu up so that when I call it, it pops up showing me the entire contents of my drive, all in a nice menu format, something I've always wanted, so I'm quite happy about that, though I'm not currently using that setup. The only default, Windows menu left is the "Options" menu, which is actually the original "Settings" menu, that's it. You'll get the idea when you zoom in.
Other then that, nothing really groundbreaking here, just something I like. Yes, it's black and white, yes, it's bright, yes, to some it's an eye soar, but, to me, it's nice, comfortable, and I like it, which is what counts the most I suppose.
So anyway, hope you all enjoy.
The run down:
Winamp: Groovement by FrostedFlames (re-colored by me)
Wall: Organic 4 by Sticboy
Running Tclock 2 and Eppie
Also running ShortPopUp to replace the desktop right click by showing the start menu contents instead, and also have pictured the original desktop right click with the byblos extension installed.
Miranda in plain view, with it's utter simplicity, and ease of use.
Dual run box in use as well, and yep, it does work. You can open apps from either one, or two at the same time :) Just thought that was a bit different.
Welp, 10 hours later, finally off from work :) Glad to see everyone liked the shot... thanks for the many great comments, they're appreciated as always, and mean quite alot to me.
testing 1 2 3... my old specs were pitiful, won't even bother listing those, but now, I'm running a 533Mhz machine with 128 megs of RAM, 20 gig Maxtor UDMA 7200 RPM hardrive, one cdrom drive, and one HP cd burner, Sound Blaster Live 5.1 Audio card, ATI Radeon 9200 graphics card with 128 megs of it's own DDR ram, a 19 inch Mitsubishi flat screen monitor (max res of 1600X1200), and I think that's about it. Old by today's standards indeed, but works great, and gets the job done perfectly.
looks great wint. you always stretch what 98 can do. long time no see though man. how'd you get rid of all the icons from the titlebars. and also you should add that start menu thing to your site.

Thanks again everyone.
