I reckon Aero got the smooth edges by creating the popup on a background with about the same colour and the antialiased edge is in the popup graphics. That's how I'd do it anyway.

yep...i used xpopup, xlabel, and alpha-blended .pngs for the smooth curvature. thanks for the comments everyone, much appreciated.
