i think arrows on shortcuts are ugly/annoying. get powertools tweakui from microsoft.com and it has option to remove them.

If it's your kind of a thing you can delete the recycle bin. That's what I have done and it has gone well. Here's a link telling you how. http://www.onecomputerguy.com/desktop.ht

Keep in mind that before doing this you should go into settings for the recycle bin and uncheck whatever says that before files are deleted they should be sent to the recycle bin.
