I really like that wall and it really looks good combined with the black. But next time try to match everything a little better, show some more windows and reshack those icons.

Minimalism is an approach, not a singular movement.
Anything that can be designed can be approached from a minimalist standpoint: there is no concrete definition or aesthetic. Saying it's a dead movement only involved in modern art is incredibly....ignorant.
An example is that one finds minimalist architecture in widely varying periods, from architects as varied as Tadao Ando, Jaques Herzog or Luis Barragan. These gentlemen have nothing to do with modern art; they are designers of structures, architects.
Another popular example of minimalism in current product design is the iPod or the work of Phillip Starck.
Minimalism can also be applied music. Many IDM bands use a minimal approach to production.
In short, minimalism, as stated above, is not a concrete style in any discipline, but rather an approach that usually involves the accentuation of elements that are deemed important to the designer or artist and the removal of elements that the designer or artists feels are extraneous. Both your comments are akin to attending a swimming meet and stating that the backstroke is in the past.

minimalism is the past, technically; it was part of the modern art movement. ok, i'll quit being a dick, it's only a title :). Edit: ouch... thanks for investing the time to take my ass to school on that one. as embarrasing as that was, in all seriousness, that's one of the things i admire about this place - you guys seem to know your shit. i, uh, guess i'll go back to lurking... at least until i find out how to not make a complete ass of myself.

c72, minimalism was also an old art movement in art history, like the impressionist and realist movements :P but acroyear, uhhh when you hear minimal on this website... it means minimal approach as c72 said. Kinda like the art principle. It means. more stylexp type visual styles with smaller neater details rather than your typical wb skin with flashy gloss, animations, a thick ass bar, chunky stuff :p O! and nice screenshot, show a few more windows tho kay?

the calendar goes very nicely with the wallpaper. The icons have GOT to be changed. It kinda kills the look. Although everything does look ok, it doesn't seem too minimalistic to me.

As a huge fan of minimalism in all aspects of the term....i must agree that this isn't really minimal. Regardless, the wall is hot, and the calender is super sexy...listen to what alseides said...change those icons...i would also consider using a lighter task bar colour...perhaps something that matches your calender more
