Artist's Note

Normally I wouldn't publish this here because it's not really the sort of thing that is looked on favorably here, but Custo is REALLY dry lately, so...

In some circles this is being called the best sonique skin ever... so it'll be interesting to see how it goes over here. I'll leave it up for a while and see how it does I guess.

A couple of the cooler features:

- Add your own background to the player, replace the background.jpg files in the skin's folder with jpeg images of your choice for instant gratification.

For best results... use approx. 270x120 images, and consider desaturating. :)

- built in slide show - add a few backgrounds, and the skin shuffles through them when the song changes.

- a few million color themes, hue, sat. and lum. controls are actually built in to the skin

- if you're hardcore, try colorizing the faceplate jpegs, adding your own textures, etc... perhaps the first fully skinnable skin?

- If the skin is received well, I'll upload a pack of faceplates.

- Docking playlist, has to be seen to be understood. ;)

Optimized for the newest S2 build (Nov. 6)

and for all you sonique doubters... sonique 2 enters beta this month. ;)

the functionality is very cool, but the aesthetic of the actual player - the plain beveled oval with the sparse looking controls - is less than stellar, and there ends up being a lot of wasted space (same effect could be attained with a much more useable flattened top and bottom edge). an equal amount of time in the graphic department as was spent in the coding would be nice here. but its a very nice effort nonetheless, and the ability to "skin the skin" is quite a cool idea. ------ i havent missed the point at all. i'm well aware that you wanted to display the background feature, which is very cool. i'm simply offering my opinion that it could be done in a slightly better-looking, more functional way. no offense is intended.

"status, this skin is awesome... you need to gain the ability to except criticism though" -- and I'm simply stating that a more flashy design realistically couldn't have worked.

The controls don't match the elegance of the rest of the skin, putting more thought into them would definitely improve the overall appearance.

It's really, really hard for me to overstate how much effort was put into this skin. The fantastic coders in the S2 community helped me put together a feature set which was just staggering. You could pick and choose any color for the glass with a true HSL color picker. You could drop your pictures into the skin's folder and it'd use them as the background for the skin. You could also drop pictures into the folder to texture *the skin itself*, which was one of the coolest things I ever created. All of this was new at the time.

But by far, the coolest element of this skin was the docking playlist. It opened up as a sort of tab on the left side of your screen, and floated above your desktop, browser, porn, whatever. When clicked, it would slide out and give you full playlist control. The tab even had basic cbuttons for pause, next, etc.

This skin really demonstrated everything we had up on Winamp 3 at the time. It was a great feeling answering port requests by explaining, "sorry... Winamp can't handle the technology Tiburon uses".

Tiburon (and it's successor) were huge, huge hits in the Sonique scene, and got universally positive feedback. The only harsh criticisms I got for the skin were -- frustratingly -- from custo.

One of the technical restrictions of the technique used to create the "faceplate" system was that the faceplate would blend with the existing chassis and LCD graphics. As such, I had to create a style which would look great when blended with just about anything -- just simple contours and shadows. I was a bit hurt at the suggestion I'd half-assed the graphics, but downright offended when FF chided me for defending my design approach as "not taking criticism".

Deeply unhappy, I deleted the skin.

It was still featured at the time it was removed.
