Hmm, as you've rightfully noted, this is a photograph. To be truly usable as a WP you should IMHO work on it a bit - like perhaps blur the unimportant parts (now too much detail makes it a bad choice for your desktop), add some typo, play with colours, or eg. cut out the two mushrooms and make them grow out of a plain white 'groud' next to a lone twig..? Whatever suits your taste really.
