I removed every icon from my desktop, and wanted something dark and bright at same time. Since I tend to watch movies in windowed mode,so I put the bright elements to left, where they would be covered when a window is up, and wont distract the eyes ... and look interesting, when windows are minimized.

The first version is the one with sharp contrasts and grains. The second, is brighter and blurred to give a smoothness to the whole image.

Another goal of the image was to act as a guide for icon placement, and hence the almost empty areas around the planet, being nice little niches to put shortcuts on.

The second one, might be better for those who plan to have icons all over the place.

The third version, has none of the logos.
