Artist's Note

After over a 4 month abscense from the WMP skinning forefront, and over 10 months since the last installment of BASIC, BASIC Version 5 is Finally available to the public.
As is with all of the installments of BASIC, this skin is based around being the most easy to use, functional, and sleekest skin that I could possibly make. Graphics, as many of you would say "unfortunately" have taken a back-seat, but the coding and functionality shines through in all it's glory.
This skin has nothing obvious and special to boast about, other than how it is a skin that you will keep coming back to, I can gaurentee that. As always, I can gaurentee that this code is completely bugless, no matter how much you hammer on this skin, it will always work. I gaurentee that, it's earned the "Reeses2150 Seal Of Approval".

This skin has 7 differant themes, which is a first for the BASIC series. Almost every element of this skin was remade completely from the ground up, using very little coding from the previous BASIC skins. I'm also really proud of the customizability of this skin, almost every element has SOME bit of customizable preferances you can set. That's especially true for the Playlist, which for once, you have COMPLETE control over what is displayed.

I've made this skin with efficiancy in mind, and due to that, sometimes, it may get a bit confusing to operate some elements at first. So I made a special HELP menu to be shown when you first load the skin, and then to be accesible anytime you want. The HELP window here is a lot differant than you'd think. When the HELP window is open, whenever you bring the cursor over almost any part of the skin, the HELP menu will instantly display Info/Instructions/details about that element, so It's easy a sin to use.

This is probably going to be my last solo skin, definitely my biggest. I'm planning on everything from here on out being collabs between myself and someone else doing the graphics. But knowing myself, this may or may not be true. So don't count me out just yet...

Visually this skin isn't very appealing. I'm sure you did an excellent job on the coding but like advent said that's not what we see when we use the skin.

The code behind this skin may be spectacular, but that's not what people see when they use skins. Great idea with the help window.

dude...this must be the most fantastic WMP skin-ever. Really. If you are a minimalist, download it.

Basic5 is an interesting concept, but I think having multiple layers of text of the same color in the Metadata screen is a really bad idea. All I see is a scrolling mishmash of unreadable white characters. Maybe you should make one of the layers a different color, like a light blue or green. As is, the Metadata screen is nearly useless.

well, I've learned that the groups that visit here on customize.org are not really my type of people. I stand for functionality, most of you guys stand for style and appearance. No offense, but I just believe that function > style. but either way.

BigDaddy081002, thnx for the approval;
advent, thnx for the CC;
wombatharness, ok, thnx for the CC;
heylove, well, thnx for the comment, even if it was a little bit downsided, at least it IS a comment.
The worst comment you can ever recieve is no comment at all, I guess...

I do not agree with WombatHarness. First I have to say that I do not clearly understand what you call the Metadata window, but it can be either the TrackInfo window or the bar on the main view, which displays all of the metadata of the current track. Neither of them is useless mishmash in my opinion. It is readable. Maybe it's your resolution or brightness/contrast settings.

As for the design issue, there is not much to say. Having a large variety of skins means having the ability to choose. I know enough people who like design the most (like me) but on the other hand, I have received lots of comments myself from people who like functions more and wish a skin like this. Different people, different opinions. There is no conflict.

This is a masterpiece. One can have a full-fledged player or a little static "thingy" (there is no other way to describe it) when one needs the machine to do other things (rendering playing etc). A little suggestion would be to make all panels move qhen the main little panel is moved. All the same, this skin is great. The help menu was a great idea!

First, let me say that I signed up for this forum just so I could comment on your skin. That said, I HAVE to tell you: Great Skin Man! I'm running W7 with MP 12 which, by the way, is butt ugly! (MP 12 not W7) and your skin works almost flawlessly. (almost, because for me at least, the track time at the bottom of the playlist does not display correctly). Anyway, as a measure of how much I like your skin may I offer up a few requests/suggestions? Yes? Wonderful! Ok, Here they are and in no particular order: 1. How about a way for the user to select their own background as one of the "Themes"? that would be like, way cool 2. and maybe this is "operator error", but I could not "disappear" the help box. Its a great idea and very helpful at first, but once ya know how everything works, well... we know! Go away already! (By the way, the ability to selectively disappear the other boxes is great.) 3. So, why can't we resize ALL the boxes? Please? and could we have a way to move all the boxes as a group? (okay, that should have been 4 but someone else mentioned it too. And lastly, and this may be a function of my resolution (1600x1200) or my OS but, the controls and typeface are just a wee bit tiny for these old eyes of mine (hey, I'm 51 whaddya want from me?) - - if only I had the option to resize, well I'll tell ya what, don't ya know - well, THEN by jimminy you would have the G** D**est Most Perfectest Windows Player skin ever! Well, It would definitely have MY "GDMP" seal of approval at any rate !
